OUR SWIMMERS

Kids (under 10yrs)

We all want kids to enjoy their early competitive experience in swimming as this will help promote life-long participation. This means competing in a fun and relaxed environment over a range of strokes and short distances with their friends.

These competitions should be short and without disqualifications, giving swimmers and their families the opportunities to learn swimming rules, familiarise themselves with meet conditions and how a meet is run in an open and educational environment.

Pre Teen (11 - 12yrs)

As swimmers get a little older, they will be introduced to some higher distances of events whilst maintaining the relaxed and informal environment. It’s about the joy of racing and competing against other athletes.

These competitions will continue the development of skills and understanding for swimmers and parents alike through more race starts. The focus is on fun and enjoyment of personal improvement over winning, promoted by the knowledge of results, and social engagement.

Youth (13-17yrs)

From 13 onwards, competition is guided by our National Competition Framework.

Swimmers will have the opportunity to gain experience competing in a range of strokes and events. We want to promote life-long participation and maintain the social engagement of athletes through club, team and community.

Swimmers will be able to compete against others in formats that replicate national and international competitions for improved practice effect, with support to further develop personal excellence in and out of the pool.

Adults (18yrs & Over)

Competition is guided by our National Competition Framework. Swimmers will have the opportunity to compete in any event. We want to promote life-long participation and maintain the social engagement of athletes through club, team and community.

Swimmers will be able to compete against others in formats that replicate national and international competitions for improved practice effect, with support to further develop personal excellence in and out of the pool.

MULTI-CLASS

Multi class swimming provides meaningful competition for swimmers with disability.

Swimming Australia has developed the Multi Class Swimming Engagement Portal to assist swimmers with disability to Get Classified, Get Involved and Get Discovered!

Classification groups athletes according to the impact of their impairment on their ability to compete in the sport of swimming. The purpose of classification in swimming is to minimise the impact of eligible impairment types on the outcome of competition so that athletes who succeed in competition are those with best anthropometry, physiology and psychology and who have enhanced them to best effect. In Australia swimming classification is designed to ensure a fair environment for competition at all levels from club through to Australian Championships.

MASTERS

Membership is open to people who are 18 years or are older. An individual who has attained the age of 18 can join a Masters Club to train and compete in club, branch and national Masters events. FINA still retains its’ minimum age for competing at 25 years.

You can travel the world as an Australian masters swimmer and train with any masters club.
